About L.A. McGARVIE
I was born in Northern California and spent time living and traveling all over California. I obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine. From there I moved to Florida and received a Juris Doctorate from Stetson University College of Law. Now I continue to live in Florida with my beloved rescue dog, where I get to spend my days doing what I love.
As L.A. McGarvie, I craft bold, emotionally intelligent mysteries that unravel the complexities of justice, psychology, and power. Through gripping narratives—spanning political thrillers, psychological suspense, and cozy culinary crimes—I aim to captivate readers with sharp storytelling, relatable heroines, and morally tangled cases. My mission is to challenge assumptions, explore the gray areas of truth, and deliver page-turning fiction that lingers long after the final chapter.
My Story
Over a decade ago I got my first inspiration for a story. I remember exactly where I was, exactly what I was doing, and I had to stop. Right in the middle of work, I stopped and wrote the inspiration down. That inspiration was for my first novel, ‘Harm’s Way: A Cassandra Harmond Mystery Series.’
From that day forward I have never stopped getting inspirations. I look to current events, or just anything that inspires. I have gotten inspirations for novels from words or phrases. Crazy as it may sound, anything that sparks the imagination can become anything you want it to be.
I never gave up on that dream of being a writer. And now that dream is a reality. I have one published novel that I completely self-edited and self-published. Not a process for the faint of heart.
With my background in Psychology and Law this makes perfect sense for me. I have always been creative and have always needed a creative outlet in my life.
And, with my decades of experience working in fine dining, Michelin Star restaurants and with Forbes-5 Star training, I thought branching out into the Culinary Mystery sub-genre seemed like a natural choice.
